What Scents Effectively Deter Bed Bugs?

If you’re dealing with a bed bug infestation, you’ve likely spent hours maybe even days scouring the Internet searching for information on how to handle the problem without a professional. You are not the only individual to do so! Throughout your search, you’ve likely come across all kinds of varying information about repellents. 

The only problem is, most of this information is misleading. That being said, there are a lot of scents like peppermint, tea tree oil, and lavender that can be used to deter bed bugs.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that they’ll deter all bed begs or work in all situations, but they are certainly worth trying, as they have been proven effective in some situations. Give the powerful aromas and properties of the above-mentioned scents, it only makes sense that they would deter bed bugs. The problem is, they just aren’t as effective as many people promise on the net.

One effective and proven scent that has been effectively proven to repel bed bugs is the pheromones that the nymphs secret. That’s right, the smell of baby bed bugs can deter adult male bed bugs. 

This is because their bodies possess a natural defense to deter adult males. This is a defense mechanism, as adult males would mate with the babies. Unfortunately, this is only something that effective for males. And, it might not always be effective on all males.

It’s is still, however, one potent ingredient that you can find in a lot of over the counter bed bug repellents. In addition to this, many people utilize essential oils. It is even a well-known fact that the United States Department of Agriculture conducted a study to determine just how effective essential oils are at deterring bed bugs. 

What was discovered was truly interesting and informative. Essential oils didn’t prove to be as effective as other repellents, but they did appear to interact with the bug’s bodies in unique ways.

While there are many essential oils and scents available for deterring bed bugs, it is blood orange oil, paraffin oil, silicone oil, and spearmint that have proven to be the most effective over the years. That being said, the effectiveness is extremely limited at best. Pest Control Denver
